Oleg Vasilyev was born in Bashkortostan, but in 1921 moved to Kiev.
In 1940 Oleg Vasilyev srarted to study in the Kiev State Art Institute, but his studies were interrupted by the war.
In 1942, he was seriously wounded and after long-term treatment returned to Kiev. From 1944 to 1949 he continued his studies.
Vasilyev was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1968.
He was a participant of many art exhibitions since 1945. His paintings were exhibited in Cuba, Poland, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy, Yugoslavia, Holland, Pakistan, Sri Lanka.
The main genres in Vasilyev's artworks are landscapes and thematic paintings. He was inspired by many trips to various places of the Soviet Union - Karelia, Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia. Vasilyev's paintings attract the attention by their emotionality and extraordinary imaginative solutions.
Vasilyev's paintigs are represened at the National Art Museum of Ukraine, Donetsk, Lugansk, Nikolaev, Kharkov, Sumy and Chernigov Art Museums and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
